2011 Holiday Volunteer and Donation Needs

 

American Cancer Society Discovery Shop
The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop needs donations of gift items, costume jewerly, sweaters, home decor items and more.

Blue Ridge Independent Living Center
The Blue Ridge Independent Living Center is in need of Christmas cards and gift cards to area merchants/restaurants for its clients.

Child Health Investment Partnership (CHIP)
CHIP would like volunteers to assist with the “Breakfast with Santa” event on December 10th at the Hotel Roanoke. Also, donations of children’s books, clothing, coats, hats, mittens, cribs, high chairs, etc.

City of Roanoke Municipal Volunteer Program
The City of Roanoke is in need of volunteers for the “Neighbor Helping Neighbor” leaf program through December 16th. Volunteers (individuals and groups) are needed to assist the elderly and disabled with raking and bagging their leaves. This is done on the volunteer’s schedule. Volunteers will be assigned a neighbor in need through the City of Roanoke.

Feeding America Southwest Virginia
Volunteers are needed at Feeding America Southwest Virginia to process donated food items. Additionally, donations of canned meats, vegetables and fruit, soups, peanut butter, dry beans, rice, whole hams, and turkeys are needed.

Presbyterian Community Center
The Presbyterian Community Center could use volunteers to assist with food pantry inventory on December 29th from 9AM – 2PM. The pantry at the center could also use donations of beef stew, tuna, pork & beans, and pancake mix and syrup.

Rescue Mission
The Rescue Mission is in need of volunteer receptionists for the main lobby area between 1PM and 5PM. Donations of twin size sheet sets, bath towels, $5 giftcards to fast food places (for shelter guest gifts), cans of ground coffee, packets of hot chocolate, warm socks (mens and womens), earmuffs/headbands, children’s pajamas (all sizes – infant to teen), diapers (all sizes) and boxes of chocolates/candy (for shelter guest gifts).

Richfield Retirement Assisted Living
Donations of Bingo prizes (toiletries, stuffed animals, socks, etc.), shower gels, soap, gripper socks, men’s cologne, deodorant are needed.

Roanoke Valley SPCA
The Roanoke Valley SPCA is in need of cat/kitten food, dog/puppy food, litter, timothy hay/small animal food, office supplies, paper towels/toilet paper, slightly used blankets/towels, pet toys/treats, slightly used pet carriers.

Ronald McDonald House
The Ronald McDonald House would like donations of paper towels, Clorox Anywhere spray, individually packaged snacks, pop-tats, large cans of vegetables and fruit, laundry detergent, Cascade liquid dishwashing detergent, small gift items for ment and women, developmental books and toys for babies and children, umberellas.
