  Botetourt Resource Center from A-Z
  The overall goal of the Botetourt Resource Center is to 

  strengthen the community of rural Botetourt County by 

  offering a link to social and human services. The Botetourt

  Resource Center will be a point of service or a place to

  facilitate access to those services. Volunteers from the

  community are donating time for care giving.

Recent Events

The Botetourt Resource Center was awarded $50,000 by the Foundation for Roanoke Valley in May, 2009 through the "Belonging Initiative"  Grant.  This grant is aimed at:

New Programs for Seniors

Upgrading Equipment

One Support Staff Position

 

Updates will be provided on this wonderful news for this fiscal year.

Ramp built by Rebuilding Together of the Roanoke Valley in partnership with the Botetourt Resource Center.

Wii program purchased with the "Belonging Grant" from Foundation for Roanoke Valley for new programs for Seniors.

 

Accomplishments in 2008-2009

● Utilized $1,000 grant awarded to the BRC from Catholic Diocese of  Richmond plus $1,225 in private donations in partnership with the Catholic Church of the Transfiguration in Fincastle for fuel assistance totaling $2,225 to help 11 households with a total of 55 people.

● Received  grant for $1,700 from The Presbytery of the Peaks to assist with the Food Pantry and Crisis Response.

● Increased partnerships with churches throughout Botetourt County for crisis  response – now coordinating crisis response for 28 churches throughout Botetourt County.

● Utilized $4,973 + from (BAMA) Buchanan Area Ministerial Funds for crisis assistance for 37 households totaling 74 individuals.

● 1,800+ calls answered at the Center. Total crisis assistance (bills, food, clothing, household needs, Advocacy, school supplies, Christmas, Thanksgiving, prescription assistance, coordination of county resources, etc.) given through ongoing case management to  280+ individuals.

● Volunteerhours donated =  460+ hours.

● Coordination and distribution of the BAMA Food Pantry Food Pantry. Served  283+ people (not including the Food Distribution from Kroger every week from July-August) .

● Received a grant from Foundation for Roanoke Valley for Senior Prescription Assistance for $4,900.  In this fiscal year $ 2,400 was spent on prescription co-pays and prescriptions.

● Continuing partnership with the Mill Creek Baptist Church for winter wood distribution. Distributed free wood for 9 households throughout the winter months.

● Continuing partnership with the Hunters for the Hungry to provide venison for the BAMA Food Pantry.

●  Continuing services of transportation coordination for Seniors, small repairs to senior homes, exercise and recreation programs (20 + use the building for programs/weekly), recycling of needed clothes, appliances, home items, etc. throughout the county.

●  Continuing services related to advocacy, referral and information. 

●  Coordination of resources for back-to-school supplies for low-income families in partnership with Botetourt Town & Country Women’s Club – adoption of a family and Daleville United Methodist Church collected school supplies.  Total of 13 children served.

●  Senior Small Home Repair Program spent $2,121 on repairs in 11 homes.  Some of the repairs done for Seniors included:  2 roofs repaired, ramp built, ceiling repaired, new wood stove, shelves built two well pumps replaced, weatherization of windows and doors.

●  Partnerships for Thanksgiving dinners :  Mill Creek Baptist Church (fixings for 12 turkey dinners), Botetourt Longbeards (donated 12 turkeys), Botetourt Kiwanis Club (adopted a family of 4 ), St. Mark’s United Methodist of Daleville Men’s Group (adopted a family of 6) total fed = 50 people.

●  Adoption of individuals, families and children at Christmas :  Advance Auto – 3 families,

Wheatland Lutheran Church – 1 family of 4, Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren – 2 Senior Citizens, Community Church – new boots for all 4 of the Men’s Group, St. Mark’s United Methodist of Daleville “Frog Group” - snack baskets for the Men’s Group, Individuals bought a total of  6 $10 gift cards from Wal-Mart,  Lithia Baptist – 12 gift cards of $15 each to Food Lion, Individual gave two $100 gift cards to K-Mart to two children, Individual gave $180.00 in gift certificates to Payless Shoes to a family of three children  and 1 Senior Citizen, Troutville Baptist –adopted family, Spickard Accounting Services – 18 phone cards= $90, Kiwanis Club of Botetourt took 5 children shopping at K-Mart spending $150/per child, Dollar General donated Christmas presents to the BRC to distribute.

Total children served for Christmas = 37

●  Town of Troutville donated meeting space throughout the year when needed and $1,000.

●  Botetourt County donated $7, 500.

●  The Blue Mountain Foundation Grant of $2,100 was presented to the Center by the Foundation for Roanoke Valley.

●   The Foundation for Roanoke Valley gave the BRC $50,000 in a “Belonging Initiative Grant” to renovate the BRC building, boost technologies in the BRC, create new senior programs, boost existing senior programs, and hire a staff program assistant to the Director.
