What is In-Lighten?
In-Lighten is a project to increase awareness of health and sexuality issues in the GLBT women’s community of the Roanoke Valley by providing social outlets. All you have to do is get involved!
Who is welcome at In-Lighten?
Anyone who wants to be involved in In-Lighten is welcome to attend functions, be a part of the Event Volunteer Team or apply to be on the Core Group. In-Lighten welcomes members of the trans community, lesbians, straight and bisexual women as well as those who don’t want to be out, can’t be out or are questioning their sexuality. We know our community is a diverse one, and we want all of that diversity represented. It is our goal to provide a safe, fun space for all people and our policy to be confidential.
What is the core group?
The Core Group is a group of volunteers that meet regularly to discuss upcoming events, review materials and to provide leadership for In-Lighten. Core Group requires a higher level of dedication than other volunteer opportunities within In-Lighten, as the Core Group meets twice a month and staffs the events that In-Lighten sponsors. It is a great way to meet people and socialize and to ensure that In-Lighten is meeting the needs of our diverse community. Core Group membership begins by attending a Core Group meeting as an observer and then completing an application and interview. If you are interested in being a part of this rewarding experience, contact Emily at InLightenRke@aol.com
