Point in Time Count

Point in Time Volunteer Training

Each year, the City of Roanoke, in partnership with various local agencies, leads the effort to identify the number of homeless in the Blue Ridge Continuum of Care.   This year, dedicated volunteers will canvass Roanoke’s shelters and streets to survey the area’s most vulnerable individuals and families on Thursday, January 28th. The street survey will be conducted by volunteers with the Jefferson College of Health Sciences.  To ensure the most accurate results possible, street surveys will be conducted during the early morning hours on Thursday, January 28, 2016. The shelter surveys will be conducted beginning at 4:30PM on the evening of January 28, 2016.  Survey findings will be presented to the community once compiled.

ALL volunteers must be registered (please do not bring unregistered volunteers with you). Additional information and training for shelter count volunteers will take place at 4:30PM on January 28th at the shelter where you are registered. Training for Street Canvassing volunteers for the students at Jefferson College of Health Sciences (at JCHS) will be coordinated by Dr. Judy Lash.

*Please note that in the case of inclement weather, if Roanoke City Schools are closed on the 28th, data collection will not take place.
