If you’re looking for skills in specific areas of nonprofit management, then explore the Center’s workshop. Classes are open to everyone and include nonprofit management, staff, director’s, volunteers, and other interested individuals.

All courses are from 9 AM – 12 Noon. Registration will begin at 8:45 AM
May 18th: Human Resource Management: Hot Topics in Employment Law Today, Instructor: Dan C. Summerlin, III, Principal, Woods Rogers, LLC
Course Description: This course is designed to cover the hot topics in employment law today. The course will cover the following and how they will impact your organization: Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Exempt/Non-Exempt: Are your employees properly classified?, recent changes to the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), best practices in handling discipline and termination issues within your organization. There will be plenty of opportunities for questions on these and other employment topics.
June 1st: Internal Controls: What Every Nonprofit Executive & Board Should Know, Instructor: Bruce Chase, Ph.D., CPA, Radford University
Course Description: The course covers the five elements of internal control: control environment, risk assessment, control activities, information & communication, and monitoring.
June 15th: Capstone Course, Instructor: Bruce Chase, Ph.D., CPA, Radford University
Course Description: The “Capstone Course” is the final course in the Nonprofit Resource Certificate Program. During this course, participants will work in teams to develop rudiments of a business plan for a new nonprofit entity. At the conclusion of the course, teams will present their work.
June 22nd: Fundraising 101, Instructor: Wendy Moore, Consultant
Course Description: The course is an overview of fundraising basics, identifying the various ways nonprofits can secure funding. It is tailored to new development staff/volunteers or for those with specific fundraising questions.
July 13th: Successful Proposal Writing: Developing Your Competitive Edge, Instructor: Jenny Bradley, Managing Partner, CIE Partners, LLC
Course Description: This course is not just another proposal writing workshop, it will explore new approaches to tell your story; new ways of pulling critical elements of a proposal together; how to collaborate with other organizations to strengthen your proposal.
